The goal of the preliminary National Diploma Programme is to produce qualified candidates for admission into the National Diploma (ND) Programmes offered in the Polytechnic. The main objectives of the pre-national diploma programme is, therefore to upgrade candidates with at least the GCE, O' level or the SSCE ordinary passes four relevant subjects or their recognized equivalents to enable them qualify for admission and matriculation into the Polytechnic's National Diploma Programme.
The structure of the Pre-National Diploma Programme consists of formal lectures and practical work in the relevant subjects and one or more vocational course(s) module(s) relevant to the various Programmes under each cluster. The vocational component of the programmes is intended to introduce the students (who have not had any pre-vocational orientation) to vocational skills courses as well as give them the basic knowledge of the programme before enrolment into the National Diploma Programme.
The Science and Technology courses are run in the Science Laboratory Technology Department while the Management and other related courses are run in the General Studies Department.
The requirement for admission to Pre-National Diploma (Science and Technology) is ordinary passes in four papers in GCE/SSCE or their equivalents (TC II, RSA Stage Il, City and Guilds/WAEC Technical Cert/NABTEB Cert, etc.) which should include English and Mathematics plus any other two from Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Integrated Science.
GCE, 'O' Level or SSCE or their equivalents with ordinary passes in four papers which include English Language, Mathematics and any other two Subjects preferably from the following: Economics, Commerce, Geography, Business Methods, Principles of Accounts, Government. In the case of the Pre-National Diploma in Office Technology & Management the minimum requirements is GCE, O' level or SSCE ordinary passes in English Language and any three other subjects preferably from the following: Business Methods, Commerce, Typewriting, Shorthand, and Literature in English, History, Religious Knowledge, Geography and Mathematics.
The goals and objectives of the National Diploma Programme are to produce technicians or technologists in the science and technology disciplines/fields or similar manpower in business and management occupations. The curriculum for the programme reflects the requirements of the relevant industries and employers, and is adequate in content to prepare students at the appropriate level in particular fields to acquire skills, sound theoretical background and competence to fulfil the requirements for specific job objectives.
The following are the general approved for admission into polytechnic's National Diploma (ND) Programmes.
(a) The candidate must write the polytechnics and colleges of education Matriculation Extermination (PCE) in subjects relevant to the proposes course of study and attain an acceptable score in the examination for entry into the course of his/her choice in addition to having obtained any of the following academic qualifications.
(b) The candidate must have been properly admitted as well as passed the examinations prescribed for the relevant Pre-National Diploma Programme as specified in the relevant sections of this handbook.
The goals and objectives of the Higher National Diploma Programme are to produce senior cadres of Technicians/technologists and instructors in the science and technology disciplines/fields or similar manpower in the business and management occupation.
Approval to run Higher National Diploma in Banking and Finance is being awaited from the NBTE.
The pre-requisite into the Higher National Diploma (HND) is the passing of an ND programme at least Lower Credit level and a minimum of one year post-qualification industrial experience. Candidate with ND certificate at 'pass' level may be considered for admission after a minimum period of two (2) years post-qualification experience. In addition to above, a candidate must have fulfilled all requirements for an ND programme.
The Polytechnic offers some part time programmes under the Consultancy Services Unit of the Institution, which is a limited liability company (FEDPODAM CONSULTS).
Candidates are admitted for the above courses on the basis of their paper qualifications and work experience.
